"Altstadt" means Old Town in German and while in design school Tana found a strong interest in Historic Preservation so when deciding to start her own business she decided Altstadt Interiors would be a good name that brings her German background and interest in all things old together. She is a member of Historic Seattle, National Trust for Historic Preservation and a Board Member of Northwest Society of Interior Designers.
While having an interest in historic preservation and older things she does design work in all areas and would say that she designs to fit the client not to fit her own taste, that is where "Client-Centered intuitive Design" comes from. "The fun of designing is looking at it like a puzzle and finding the pieces that fit together while fitting the client at the same time. It can be very exciting when it all comes together and you see the amazement and happiness of your client."
Altstadt Interiors believes in integrity, hard work and great finished results. Tana has many return clients and referrals which is a sign of satisfied clients who enjoy working with her as she does them.
Graduating with honors from the Art Institute of Seattle in 1995 and arranging and designing areas for friends and family her whole life has made Tana Mattson a life long devotee of Interior Design.
Having a retail background has helped with the conception of the consignment furniture shop. The shop is very eclectic with many different items to choose from and many items waiting to arrive. The shop is essentially Tana's design studio and office which also happens to have other people's furniture for sale. Merchandising the furniture in the shop gives potential clients an idea of what she can do with limited space and mismatched furniture. The shop has been open since October 1996 and has seen many incredible items come and go in that time.
Feel free to come in and browse the shop as well as volumes of pictures of some of Altstadt Interiors design work. If you are considering hiring an interior designer come to the shop during business hours, 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and have a no cost interview with Tana Mattson when she is in the shop. Just give a call first to make sure she isn't out on a job site.
